Mumia Abu-Jamal turns 70 years on Wednesday, April 24th. This is a Birthday of Resistance! After 42 years of prison, he must be released NOW!

We invite you to a day of action, movement building, and calls for liberation. This is a time to address elder abuse and medical neglect in the prisons, and freedom for oppressed people everywhere.

Join us for a rally at City Hall - at the Octavius Catto monument - in the afternoon and an important program in the evening, at Waters Memorial AME Church, at 11 and South (609 Clifton Street).

Join us for the Second Annual Rosa Parks Birthday

Join us for the Second Annual Rosa Parks Birthday Celebration. This event will take place in the Skyline room at the Free Library of Philadelphia Parkway Central Library Branch on February 9, 2024, from 5pm-9pm.

As we gather to honor the legacy of Rosa Parks, it is an opportunity for us to come together as a community committed to promoting inclusivity and understanding. The celebration will feature insightful discussions, good vibes, and a shared reflection on the lessons we can draw from Rosa Parks.

"Writing and Righting Our Debt Stories" is the second event for Philadelphia’s K-12 educators to talk about the ways that debt impacts their daily lives and their teaching.

On the event series
As part of the Philadelphia Debt Coalition, Making Worlds Bookstore in collaboration with Philadelphia Debt Collective and the participatory action research group PARCEO will be hosting educators for four events aimed at providing opportunities to learn about the K-12 debt crisis and how to combat it.

We also intend to provide educators with debt refuge at each event. We’ll provide things like licensed massage, along with practical legal and debt financing advice.

The aim of our collective work is to build the coalitions and power necessary to cancel all K-12 debt. Alone, our debts burden us, but when indebted educators come together, we have power.

We look forward to hosting educators today in the upcoming months.

In our demands for a permanent ceasefire, we have to hold the media accountable for suppression & misinformation. We also have to remember the brave journalists who have risked their lives to show the world what is happening in Gaza.

On Monday, we marched to various media outlets like the Inquirer, WHYY, and Fox News in Philly to demand accountability organized by the @phillypalestinecoalition. We wore blue press vests covered in red splatter symbolic of the lives lost and the blood of journalists who have been targeted and killed by IOF in the last several weeks. The vest included each of their names. 120 press members have been killed!

It's not just an article or a video. They're not just words. We've gotten death threats, doxxed, and falsely accused of actions (still happening) as a result of media coverages failure to verify, truly investigate, and simply acknowledge the truth about our protests or the genocide in Gaza. (2/2)
